German Football Terms and Phrases

Our list of German football terms and phrases, translated into English, obviously.

Bananenflanken - 'Banana-crosses' basically. The term was started when legendary full-back Manfred Kaltz started whipping in his crosses with so much curve they looked like bananas. The Bananenflanken normally ended up on the head of the 'header-beast', Horst Hrubesch, and then in the back of the net, a combination that would serve their club, Hamburg, extremely well.

Notbremse - The professional foul.
