David Conn is the foremost investigative football journalist working today. Writing for the
Guardian and World Soccer (and previously the Independent) he has explored the murky world of
football finance and has written extensively and incisively on the subject. He is the author of
several books including the superb 'The Beautiful Game? Searching for the Heart and soul of
Football', one of our
Books to Read Before You Die.
But in his most important literary contribution to date, he has become the first football
writer to complete
Midfield Dynamo's Twenty Questions.
David has revealed ALL, exclusively to
your Super, Soaraway Midfield Dynamo. Though we didn't ask him what his favourite pre-match
meal was, he was at pains to point out that if we had, it would probably be steak and chips.

The great Socrates playing for a small mining town in Yorkshire ?

It wasn't a bad opening day of the English football season, but there weren't
really any games that would force their way onto our list of the

So Brian Laws has just splashed out about all of Sheffield Wednesday's budget
on Franny Jeffers eh ? When will these crazy managers learn ! Up until now
the ex-England wonder kid has somehow managed to maintain his dubious status as
a Premiership striker but he can now only score goals if they're handed to him
on a plate with a rocket salad and 2 side orders of foie gras, whatever the hell
that is. And he's injury prone. Anyway, for any Sheff Utd fans out there, sit
back with smug grins on your faces and remind yourselves of Franny's first
doomed transfer, when he was actually half-decent, as the boy Jeffers' move from
Everton to Arsenal becomes the latest entry in our list of the
worst ever football transfers.

Ok, so trying to hide those ginger locks with bleach was never going to the wisest
of moves, but his switch from Crewe to the Leicester certainly was.

| From the International Leagues |
| Name: | Alberto Bueno |
| Country: | Spain |
| Club: | Real Madrid Castilla (Spain) |
| Age: | 19 (20-03-1988) |
| Position: | Forward |
| |
| |

One of the great young hopes of Spanish football, Bueno has been with Real Madrid's
reserve team, Castilla, over the last couple of seasons but was recently called
up by new Real gaffer Bernd Schuster for pre-season training with the first team.
A skilful forward who likes to drop deep or drift out wide, he's
often been criticized for overdoing the tricks and not playing enough for the team,
but with such a phenomenal scoring record at youth level for both club and country
it's hard to argue that he shouldn't be greedy. Bueno capped a fine European U19
competition last year by claiming the top scorer award and notching both goals in the
final as Spain beat Scotland 2:1.

With a thunderous left foot behind him, Steven Fletcher has come to the attention of
many top footballing scouts with some fantastic goals and a near 1-in-2 goal per game
ratio. The 20 year old striker is also decent in the air and is building up a healthy
reputation as both a target man and a finisher. Despite having an English father and
being born in Shropshire, the youngster opted to play for his mother's nationality of
Scotland a few years ago, having lived and played football their since he was 10, and
having recently starred in their U19 team that reached the European final in 2006.
