This month's XI: our alternative England... |
| Here's our team of overlooked or untested players to give some of Steve Mclaren's 'untouchables' a run for their money. |
| Bent | Ashton |
| Taylor | Barton | Huddlestone | Wright-Phillips |
| Barry | Dawson | Davenport | L.Baines |

The best football stuff from last month... |
Croatia v England, not the game itself, that was terrible. But the moment when Robinson miskicked and
let the goal in - evertime you see it replayed there in the background is the grinning face
of Borat, advertising his new film. They couldn't have scripted it.
|
Dario Silva, former Uruguay star forward who had a spell with Pompey, suffers a horrific
car crash in Montevideo and has to have part of his right leg amputated.
|
Some incredible results from the Euro Champs qualifiers... Cyprus 5:2 Republic of Ireland, Scotland 1:0 France.

What we listened to last month... |
The Killers: Sam's Town (Album) |
| Not as immediate as Hot Fuss, and it took a few plays to really get into it, just
ignore the comparisons to the previous album and let it shione through as a quality album in its own right. |
The View : Superstar Tradesman (Single) |
| Quality follow up to Wasted Little DJ's. Roll on January for the album. |

|
TV stuff from last month... |
Dead Mans Shoes (TV) |
|
The Shane Meadows classic is bloody terrifying. Derbyshire's quaint old market towns will never have quite the same appeal.

|
Films we watched last month... |
The Departed (Cinema) Rating: 8/10 |
|
Scorsese returns to top form with another gangland classic, this one set in the Irish-American
underworld of Boston. Matt Damon and Di Caprio both star as moles in their respective enemies -
the police and the gangs. And Mark Wahlberg is suprisingly good as a foul mouthed detective.
But Nicholson steals the show as crimelord Frank Costello.

| Club: | Sparta Prague |
| Age: | 21 (13-12-1984) |
| Position: | Left Back |

The son of a former Czech international, Kadlac is a classy left back who's forward bursts and
tough tackling have apparently gone down a treat in the Strachan household over in Glasgow,
with the Scottish champions thought to be pondering a new year bid.

| From the British Leagues |
| Name: | Giles Barnes |
| Country: | England |
| Club: | Derby County |
| Age: | 18 (05-08-1988) |
| Position: | Midfielder |

| |
| |

|
Only signed for Derby as a trainee last summer but already a target for some of the big boys,
particularly Liverpool and Everton, who seem prepared to have an inter-scouse fight for him.
A great run of autumnal form has seen Barnes propel Derby up the league with some inspired performances
and key goals.
