The best football stuff from last month... |
We're genuinely gutted at the news that Riquelme is hanging up his international boots - why ? He's got years
left in him yet.
The modern game's now so devoid of decent playmakers that he'll really be missed.
|
Steve Staunton is threatened with a gun in Dublin. Blimey. In the good old days a few chants
of "We want Staunton out ! Say we want Staunton out !" would do the trick.
|
A great start for Steve Mclaren, with England 4 up at half time against Greece.
Does this herald a golden era for English football ? or were Greece just pants ?
|
Juventus sign French funnyman Jean Alain Boumsong. Have they actually seen him play ? Or is
this a part of their punishment ?
|
And if you think that the bosses at Juventus are going to be embarressed when they first see
old Jean slice one of his attempted clearances or run blindly into a fellow defender, spare
a though for how Ashley Cole's dear old mum must have felt when she opened the newspapers and saw her
son donning that white suit and all that bling to promote the national lottery. Is Cole the
new Beckham ? He'd like to think so.

What we listened to last month... |
Razorlight: Razorlight (Album) |
|
Didn't think is was a good as their debut album on the first few listens, but its a real
grower and a few weeks on the verdict is a massive thumbs up.
|
Primal Scream: Riot City Blues (Album) |
|
Cracking stuff, a definite nod back to their 1994 album Give Out But Don't Give Up
with a real bluesy/country swagger to it.
|
|
|
TV stuff from last month... |
Father Ted (TV) |
|
Watched some cracking old episodes on satellite including Entertaining Father Stone -
the scene in the bathroom - what a gem.
|
|
|
Films we watched last month... |
Mission Impossible 3 (Cinema) Rating: 8/10 |
|
Big fan of the 1st MI film, not as keen on the 2nd. This is a return to form,
with action from start to finish.

|
|
Books we read last month... |
Gordon Strachan: My life in football |
|
Sharp and witty as a tv pundit and during his pre/post match interviews,
Strachan's humour also comes across really well in the book.
The book is a really honest, frank and funny account of his career and the game in general.
Recommended to everyone, not just to fans of the teams he's played for.

| From the International Leagues |
| Name: | Igor Akinfeev |
| Country: | Russia |
| Club: | CSKA Moscow |
| Age: | 20 (08-04-1986) |
| Position: | Goalkeeper |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
|
A true boy wonder, Akinfeev made his debut for CSKA aged 17, and for the national team only
a year later. Coached by 80's legend Rinat Dasaev, Akinfeev is a terrific shot stopper
who commands the box with real authority.

|
| From the British Leagues |
| Name: | Steven Naismith |
| Country: | Scotland |
| Club: | Kilmarnock |
| Age: | 19 (14-09-1986) |
| Position: | Forward |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
|
Naismith won last year's Scottish football writers
Young Player of the Year award after notching 13 goals and a host of man of the match
performances. Killie fans have nicknamed him the 'Milky Bar Kid', whilst the Scottish media
have dubbed him 'the Scottish Wayne Rooney'. Whether that's in reference to his footballing
talent or a preference for older ladies was not made clear. At the end of last season he
was attracting scouts from the leading Scottish and English Championship clubs, but the big
Premiership clubs have recently started to take note as well.
